Classical logic as limit completion

چکیده

We define a constructive model for ∆2-maps, that is, maps recursively definable from a map deciding the halting problem. Our model refines existing constructive interpretation for classical reasoning over one-quantifier formulas: it is compositional (Modus Ponens is interpreted as an application) and semantical (rather than translating classical proofs into intuitionistic ones, we define a mathematical structure intuitionistically validating Excluded Middle for one-quantifier for-

Functional completion

Nonmonotonic causal logic is a knowledge representation language designed for describing domains that involve actions and change. The process of literal completion, similar to program completion familiar from the theory of logic programming, can be used to translate some nonmonotonic causal theories into classical logic. Its applicability is restricted, however, to theories that deal with truth...

Modeling the suppression task under weak completion and well-founded semantics

Formal approaches that aim at representing human reasoning should be evaluated based on how humans actually reason. One way in doing so, is to investigate whether psychological findings of human reasoning patterns are represented in the theoretical model. The computational logic approach discussed here is the so called weak completion semantics which is based on the three-valued Lukasiewicz log...

Truth Values and Connectives in Some Non-Classical Logics

The question as to whether the propositional logic of Heyting, which was a formalization of Brouwer's intuitionistic logic, is finitely many valued or not, was open for a while (the question was asked by Hahn). Kurt Gödel (1932) introduced an infinite decreasing chain of intermediate logics, which are known nowadays as Gödel logics, for showing that the intuitionistic logic is not finitely (man...

Classical Logic as Limit An intuitionistic model of ∆2-maps using Parallel Computations

We propose a purely intuitionistic equational model N of ∆2-maps. N is an informative model: if ∃x.P (x) is true in N , we may intuitionistically deduce P (n) for some integer n. Integers are a dense subsetN of N : if a property of the structure N is true for all x ∈ N , then it is true for all x ∈ N . N is not obtained through Noncounterexample interpretation, nor through any existing proof-th...

An Explicit Formula for the Free Exponential Modality of Linear Logic

The exponential modality of linear logic associates a commutative comonoid !A to every formula A, this enabling to duplicate the formula in the course of reasoning. Here, we explain how to compute the free commutative comonoid !A as a sequential limit of equalizers in any symmetric monoidal category where this sequential limit exists and commutes with the tensor product. We apply this general r...
